Following a ski accident this young patient fractured his jaw and lost his front four bottom teeth. Dental implants and a fixed bridge gave him a permanent replacement for his plastic, removable denture.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root placed in the jawbone during a minor operation. Following an appropriate healing period, the implant fuses to the bone in a process know as "Osseointegration". After a few months, the implant can be restored by attaching a new tooth crown or bridges. Alternatively, two or more implants can be used to hold dentures tight during eating & speech ( denture stabilisation )
